Biography

Emma Tachard-Mackey was born in Le Mans, France, to a French father and a British mother. Her father, Philippe, is a headmaster. Her mother, Rachel, is a volunteer at a charity.[2] She grew up in Sablé-sur-Sarthe and received her Baccalauréat (specialized in Literature) in Nantes, in 2013.[3][4] She moved to the United Kingdom at age 17, and later attended the University of Leeds where she studied theatre, performed in productions at the Workshop Theatre and directed plays for the university's theatre group.[5][6][7]

Mackey has been compared to Australian actress Margot Robbie, having been mistaken for her at the beginning of her career.[8][9][10]

Career

Mackey modeled for the English clothing line AIDA Shoreditch's 2017 summer collection.[11] In 2016, Mackey played Michelle in the horror television film Badger_Lane.[12] In 2018, she starred in Summit Fever, a drama film about two young English mountaineers attempting to climb the Matterhorn, the Eiger, and Mont Blanc over the summer.[13][14][15][9]

Mackey stars alongside Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson and Ncuti Gatwa in the Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education.[16][17][18][19][20][21] Her character in Sex Education, Maeve Wiley, is a quick witted and business-savvy "bad girl" who convinces a fellow student to start an underground sex therapy business at their school.[22][23][24][25][26][16][27] Sex Education is Mackey's first major television series. She has received positive critical reception for her performance.[28] Her character's pink hair sparked a fashion trend.[29]
